Network Attached Storage (NAS)
Mit dem Begriff ?Network Attached Storage? (NAS) werden über das Netzwerk angebo?tene Fileserver bezeichnet.Je nach Betriebssystem auf der Benutzerseite kann auf die Daten mit verschiedenen Protokollen zugegriffen werden.
Für Windows Rechner werden zum Beispiel Netzlaufwerke für Gruppen und Userdaten angeboten. Linux und MAC OS X Rechner k?nnen auf dieselben Daten als CIFS und NFS-Share zugreifen und meist ist keine spezielle Client-Software für den Zugriff n?tig. UNIX Rechner k?nnen auf die Daten per NFS-Share zugreifen.
NAS richtet sich vor allem an Gruppen oder Institute, in deren Fokus eine effiziente und effektive Datenhaltung steht und die ihre IT-Kosten durch Auslagerung des Fileservers reduzieren m?chten.
Die Informatikdienste übernehmen damit das File Servermanagement und bieten durch professionelles und serviceorientiertes Management die Plattform für nachhaltige Speicherkonzepte an den Instituten.
Um mit einem m?glichst bedarfsgerechten Angebot auf die Anforderungen aus der Forschung, aus der Lehre und aus der Verwaltung der ETH zu reagieren bieten die Informatikdienste Speicher TIERS an. In der Abbildung oben ist das TIERING Model des zentralen NAS Speichers dargestellt. Die mit den einzelnen Speicher TIERS verbundenen Services sowie die Kosten sind nachfolgend erl?utert.
TIER 1 - NAS mit Fibre Channel Disks
Die Dienstleistung NAS mit Fibre Channel Disks (NAS TIER 1) richtet sich vor allem an Gruppen oder Institute, die ihre IT-Kosten durch Auslagerung des Fileservers reduzieren m?chten. Mit der Spezialisierung auf Netzwerk Filesysteme und grosse Datenmengen bieten die Informatikdienste die Bereitstellung und Sicherung der Daten als Dienstleistung an. Die SLAs weisen eine Verfügbarkeit von 99.95% im 7/24 Stunden Betrieb aus. Der NAS Service wird 7/24 Stunden überwacht.
Kosten
Das TB zentral verwalteter NAS TIER1 Speicher kostet seit 1. Juli 2019 CHF 125 pro Jahr.
Optional wird die Datenreplikation zwischen den Standorten RZ und HIT angeboten. Die Replikation bedeutet doppelte Datenhaltung und kostet zwei Mal CHF 125 pro Jahr und TB zuzüglich eines Sockelbetrags von CHF 4000 pro Kundengruppe mit einer von der Share Gr?sse abh?ngigen Anzahl von replizierbaren Shares.

TIER 3 - HSM Speicher (Hierarchical Storage Management) mit Tape Backend
Statische, inaktive Daten, die auf dem NAS Speicher gespeichert sind, werden mittels Migrationsprozess auf Tapes in zwei voneinander unabh?ngige Tape Libraries ausgelagert. Der Zugriff auf diese Daten erfolgt vollst?ndig transparent, ist aber entsprechend langsam. Aus diesem Grund ist die Aufteilung NAS - HSM vom Nutzer sorgf?ltig zu planen.
Kosten
Das TB zentral verwalteter HSM Speicher (NAS TIER 3 mit Tape Backend) kostet seit 1. Juli 2019 CHF 75 pro Jahr, der Speicherbedarf wird am Jahresende abgerechnet und dabei quartalsweise ausgewiesen.
